エルエアで滞在制作を行ったアーティストからの寄稿文を紹介します。今回の記事は2026年4月1日（水）から 6月28日（日）の期間中滞在したアーティストの福岡 佑梨 (YURI Fukuoka)さん。
3ヶ月の滞在を経てアーティストの見たものや感じたこと――
「革ってこんなにいろいろあるの？」
といった驚きから、この3ヶ月のレジデンスは始まりました。
この滞在制作で特に印象に残っていることは、到着した翌日に１０軒以上の生産者さんのところへ連れて行っていただいたことです。
革がつくり出されるその場所で皮から革になる工程の一部を見て、工場の空気を吸って、触らせていただいて、そしてお話を聞くという貴重な体験を得て、何か頭の中でチャンネルのようなものが変わったような気がしました。
そして革での制作は、手探りのスタートでした。何がわからないのかがわからないような状態でしたが、とりあえずつくって、つくりながら革の特性や加工方法について一つずつ学んでいきました。革という普段とは違う素材で、革の特性だけではなく普段はほぼ無意識に進めていること気付くことができました。ここでの生活は、スタッフの皆さまからのサポートも心温かく、毎日制作に没頭できる日々でした。
この3ヶ月間、新しい革という素材に目一杯向き合い、”普段は見ているつもりでも見ていなかったこと”が何なのかを知ることができました。何より、姫路の革に関わる方々と出会うことができて、日本の素晴らしさをまた一つ発見できたことが大きな財産です。

This residency had started with a surprise: there are so many different kinds of leather in Himeji!
What left the deepest impression on me during this residency was the introduction to more than ten tanners, the next day after I arrived. I could see the atmosphere of the factories, touching the materials, and listening to the stories of the people involved. These invaluable experiences switched something in my mind.
Working with leather was a process of trial and error from the very beginning. I know next to nothing about leather; I began making things, learning about the material’s characteristics and techniques step by step. Working with leather—a material different from my usual porcelain—allowed me to become aware of aspects of my creative process that I typically handled almost unconsciously. My time here was filled with heartwarming support from the staff, allowing me to focus on myself fully in my work every day.
Over the past three months, I have fully immersed myself in the material of leather and discovered things I had previously overlooked—details I thought I was seeing but hadn’t truly noticed.
Above all, the most precious thing is that I met wonderful people who work with leather in Himeji.
