2026 Season 3｜招聘アーティスト紹介
L-AIRは、日本有数の皮革産地・兵庫県姫路市「高木」を拠点とする、皮革（Leather）に特化したアーティスト・イン・レジデンス（Artist in Residence）です。国内外のアーティストと地域産業をつなぎ、未だ見ぬ新たな表現の創造と地域の活性化を目指しています。
かねてより調整をしておりました、第8期・15人目となる 2026年 Season 3 に招聘されるアーティストを馬渕 洋 (まぶち ひろし) さんをご紹介します。
アーティストは2026年7月中旬から9月の2.5か月間、兵庫県姫路市にある、タンナーが集積する工場地帯・高木に滞在し、作品制作を行います。
アーティストがこれまで追求してきた芸術表現と、姫路が誇る皮革産業との融合に挑み、
これまでにない新たな表現の創出を目指します。
既存の枠を越えた試みと探求が、ここから始まります。

これまでの自分のスキルがどう役立つのか、又は全く使い物にならないのか、を知るという期待も。
短い期間ですがしっかり素材と向き合いたい。

L-AIR ARTIST IN RESIDENCE & SUPPORT PROGRAM
2026 Season 3 | Introducing an Additional Invited Artist
L-AIR is a leather-focused Artist-in-Residence program based in Takagi, Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, one of Japan’s leading leather-producing regions. By connecting artists from Japan and abroad with the local leather industry, L-AIR aims to foster new forms of artistic expression and contribute to regional revitalization.
We are pleased to introduce Hiroshi Mabuchi, the additional artist invited to participate in Season 3 of 2026, marking the 15th artist and the 8th residency season of the program.
From mid-July through September 2026, Mabuchi will spend approximately two and a half months in Takagi, an industrial district of Himeji City where many tanneries are concentrated, creating new work during his residency.
Drawing upon his long-standing sculptural practice, Mabuchi will explore the intersection between his artistic vision and Himeji’s renowned leather industry. Through this encounter, he seeks to develop new forms of expression that have yet to be realized.
A journey of experimentation and discovery beyond conventional boundaries begins here.

Artist Statement
In search of forms that strike a deep emotional chord, I have primarily worked with stone. Recently, my practice has expanded to include a range of materials as I explore an art that doesn’t become overly intellectualized.
Residency Goals
I am excited about the opportunity to work with leather, a material I have never used before.
I am also looking forward to discovering how my existing skills might contribute to this new medium—or whether they may prove to be of little use at all. Either way, I see it as a valuable opportunity to learn.
Although the residency is relatively short, I hope to engage deeply with the material and make the most of the experience.
